APAP has announced the launch of an ongoing initiative to examine performing arts salaries and compensation. In partnership with AMS Analytics, we are designing a platform to collect data year-over-year and provide vital analytics and insights to help leaders and arts workers alike.

We call it the APAP Arts Compensation Project.

U.S.-based presenting organizations and venues can enroll in a diverse cohort for the pilot phase of the project.

If you are not a U.S.-based presenter or venue, but are interested in receiving updates on how to access the data as it becomes available, you can sign up here.

The data from this pilot will be aggregated and presented at the APAP|NYC+ 2023 conference in January, and the results will provide the foundation for an expansion of this ongoing work.

Space is limited for this preliminary pilot, so we encourage you to enroll now. Deadline to enroll is October 7, 2022.

The APAP Arts Compensation Project

What is the APAP Arts Compensation Project?

In an important step towards greater pay transparency, parity and equity for arts workers, this industry-specific initiative will gather comparative compensation data on key positions in presenting organizations and venues across the United States.

The APAP Arts Compensation Project comes at a critical time in our industry. The pandemic forced many organizations to downsize teams that are only just now beginning to be right-sized. The great resignation and reshuffle have resulted in an unprecedented number of open positions in our field. Additionally, we are more aware than ever of the inequities within our field, that only together we can address.

How can I participate?

If you work for a U.S.-based performing arts presenting organization or other live arts venue, and you have the authority to provide organizational salary, compensation and demographic data to the project, you may enroll on behalf of your organization here.

Only one person per organization should enroll, and the person who enrolls does not need to be the same person who will submit data.

What are the benefits of participating?

Real-time data: Selected organizations will receive early and complete access to real-time reports via AMS’ Performance Analytics platform. Additionally, the participant’s segment will always be highlighted so that organizations can easily identify in which group they fall.
Representation: Providing your organization’s data ensures that the insights and analytics as a whole are representative of the reality of organizations like yours.
Recognition as Field Leaders: The project is intended to help the performing arts community leverage authoritative knowledge on salaries and compensations. Pilot participants will be recognized as “Founders” in perpetuity.

What should I expect?

Guidance: If selected for the pilot, participating organizations will use the Performance Analytics platform and be onboarded by the AMS Analytics team. For ease of use, organizations will be provided with as many login accounts as are needed.
Anonymized Data: The platform will never display the salary of a single individual, rather, the analytics always present the data in aggregate. Those aggregates are further segmented by organization size in order to facilitate logical comparisons.

I’m interested in the data, but am not part of a presenting organization or venue. How do I access it?

While at this time, we are only recruiting presenting organizations and venues for the pilot cohort, others in the performing arts field may find the data extremely valuable for their organizational and/or personal use.

APAP and AMS Analytics will present data at a featured session at the APAP|NYC+ 2023 conference and will make the data available to APAP members and the field.
