On October 4, 2021, BAMUTHI (Marc Bamuthi Joseph), Artist and Vice President and Artistic Director of Social Impact at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Roberta Uno, Theater Director and Director of Arts in a Changing America, Lisa Richards Toney, President and CEO, APAP and others came together in a conversation on the role the arts and humanities can play in addressing racial injustice, inequality, and systemic racism in American culture.
The event, It Starts with Us: The Role of the Performing Arts in Addressing Equity and Healing a Divided Society, offered in partnership with the Eisenhower Foundation was part of a series that explores how the arts and humanities can better amplify, visualize and reinforce key priorities of the 1968 Kerner Commission and “Healing Our Divided Society,” the Kerner Commission’s 50th anniversary report card.
